As Michelle Obama walked down the stairs of Air Force One hand-in-hand with her husband, President Barack Obama, her poppy print dress and coat threw a splash of lilac on the foggy Delhi morning.

The US First Lady was a picture of elegance in her knee-length dress, part of New York-based Indian designer Bibhu Mohapatra’s Spring-Summer 2015 collection.

On Twitter, an excited Mohapatra posted, “The President and the First Lady arrive in #india. @flotus wearing @bibhumohapatra #spring15 poppy…”, linking to a picture on Instagram of the Obamas and a model wearing a similar outfit on the ramp.

The Rourkela, Orissa-born designer made world headlines after the First Lady wore his citrus printed creation on the Jay Leno show in 2012. More recently, she wore another Bibhu Mohapatra dress the day President Obama delivered the keynote address at the CBCF Phoenix Awards Dinner in September 2014.

Mrs Obama is known for favouring young independent labels such as Jason Wu, Isabel Toledo and Maria Pinto, effortlessly mixing them with high-street brands like J. Crew and Gap. She famously wore Indian American Naeem Khan’s creation during her last visit to India.
