Lawyers on Wednesday abstained from work in Delhi district courts to protest the arrest of Bar Council of India (BCI) member Rajendra Singh Rana, who was allegedly caught accepting a bribe for granting affiliation to a private law college.
“The lawyers in all six district courts here are not appearing in any matter today. We are now planning to file a complaint against the CBI officials who had raided Rana’s house,” spokesperson, coordination committee of all bar associations of Delhi,Rajeev Khosla said.
Khosla said that CBI had raided Rana’s residence without the assistance of any lady staff despite the fact that only women were present at his house at that time.
He said the lawyers were not appearing even in courts in urgent matters like bail and grant of stay etc.
Rana was arrested on December 20 from outside the office of the BCI while allegedly taking illegal gratification of Rs one lakh from a man for giving a favourable inspection report for grant of affiliation to a private law college in Ghaziabad.
