Kuldip Sharma quits MHA, may join politics

There is another speculation that he would join the AAP and work in its organisation in Gujarat, though sources close to him said that he had several options.

Kuldip Sharma, IPS officer from Gujarat cadre and a known Narendra Modi-baiter, on Thursday resigned as advisor to Union Ministry of Home Affairs reportedly to join a political party. Sources close to him, however said he had an offer from the United Nations and from an MNC to be based in its office in South India.

There is another speculation that he would join the AAP and work in its organisation in Gujarat, though sources close to him said that he had “several options”. Officials at AAP, Gujarat, however, refused to comment.

The Gujarat cadre officer, after differences with the Modi government, had sought central deputation and had been advisor to MHA for an year.
The 1976 batch IPS officer, who was sidelined by the Modi government after he levelled allegations against former minister of state for home, Amit Shah, was last in the news when his younger brother and IAS officer Pradip Sharma demanded investigations into the alleged surveillance on him and a woman architect, which was revealed on tapes aired by two news portals.

Pradip Sharma was suspended in 2010 over six cases of corruption related to earthquake rehabilitation in Kutch. Pradip has maintained that he was targeted because Kuldip Sharma had ruffled feathers in the Modi government. Kuldip Sharma had won the battle against the state government in the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) after being denied promotion as DGP, though he was the senior-most officer in Gujarat IPS. He was promoted as DGP only after his deputation to Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) from where he retired in December 2012.
