Almost 48 hours after man shot estranged wife and died by suicide, she succumbs in Rajkot

The couple’s son, who witnessed the aftermath, is 18. Police said several family members have come forward to take him into their care.

The FIR, filed at Gandhigram police station on the basis of a complaint by Trusha’s brother Jay Mukesh Rathod, states that the couple had allegedly been arguing for over a month over suspicions of an extramarital relationship. Trusha had since been staying at the home of her friend, Pooja.

On the night of November 14, Lalji allegedly called Jay to his home. The two, along with the couple’s son, went to Pooja’s residence at 11 pm to speak with Trusha. When the discussion did not resolve matters, they returned to Lalji’s home for the night.

Jay told police that when he woke around 5 am the next morning, he found Lalji awake and using his phone, but received a dismissive response when he asked why he wasn’t sleeping.

At around 9 am, Jay was woken by repeated calls on his nephew’s phone and knocking on the door, police said. A neighbour informed him that Lalji and Trusha were arguing outside Pooja’s building. When he reached the spot, he found a crowd gathered and Lalji lying on the ground with a pistol next to him. Bystanders claimed Lalji had fired at Trusha before shooting himself. After Trusha was shifted to a private facility, her brother filed the FIR.
