Impose President’s rule in UP: Mayawati

"The law and order has become anarchic and is turning towards 'jungle raj'. I demand that the governor should recommend President's rule in the state in public interest," Mayawati said.

Mayawati, UP woman fire, Samajwadi party, UP woman set on fire, India news “I again demand imposition of President’s rule in Uttar Pradesh… Since the Samajwadi Party came to power, all types of crimes are being committed,” said Mayawati.

Accusing the Uttar Pradesh government of downplaying the death of woman allegedly set afire by policemen in Barabanki, BSP supremo Mayawati on Wednesday demanded the government’s dismissal over its “failure” to control law and order in the state.

“I again demand imposition of President’s rule in Uttar Pradesh… Since the Samajwadi Party came to power, all types of crimes are being committed. It has shaken the confidence of people,” Mayawati told reporters here. She said the manner in which the woman, whose son is a journalist, was allegedly torched at a police station in Barabanki was shameful for the government.

Mayawati said even when the woman gave a statement, the Chief Minister was trying to downplay the incident by ordering a magisterial inquiry. “He should have terminated the accused policemen and sent them to jail,” she said. The former chief minister alleged that the SP government was protecting a particular community.

“The law and order has become anarchic and is turning towards ‘jungle raj’. I demand that the governor should recommend President’s rule in the state in public interest,” she said. Mayawati also took a dig at a recent dharna by BJP MPs alleging that they were indulging in theatrics.

“If they are so concerned about law and order situation in UP then instead of indulging in theatrics, they should create pressure on the Centre to impose President’s rule in the state,” she said.

Accusing SP and BJP of having tacit understanding, the BSP supremo said the promise of good days made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Lok Sabha elections turned out to be empty. “His graph is declining and BJP will fare badly in UP state Assembly elections. I presume that before the polls, they will try to arouse communal passions by triggering riots, but I have full faith in people that they will not get misguided. They will punish both the governments,” she said.

To a question as to whether BSP will have truck with All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, she ruled out any electoral alliance with any party. Attacking the BJP-led NDA government, Mayawati said the Centre was only protecting the interest of capitalists and
corporate houses.

She alleged that all big projects were being given to private sector where reservation was not applicable. “They are only misleading people. If they are so concerned about Dalits and tribals they should arrange for reservation in promotion,” she said. Mayawati alleged that demotion of employees, who got promotion in reservation, reflected the anti-Dalit face of the state government even as she alleged that the SP government was protecting a particular community.

Her comment came against the backdrop of Samajwadi Party government approving a proposal to demote 64 engineers of
irrigation and state water resources department who were given consequential seniority in promotion under reservation during
Mayawati regime. “The SC has not stopped reservation in promotion. It has just set some strict rules. We are not against a particular caste, but ignoring others is not good,” she said.

Reacting to Mayawati’s demand for imposition of President’s rule in UP, BJP said the BSP supremo has no respect for the democratic system. “It is a democratic country. Mayawati, who had ruled the state like a dictator, wants every government to act like a dictator,” BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.
