Hoax call,accidental gunshot creates panic in train

An anonymous call warning that some’terrorists’ carrying bombs are travelling in one of the coaches of the Mangalore-Chennai express train turned out to be a hoax.

An anonymous call warning that some “terrorists” carrying bombs are travelling in one of the coaches of the Mangalore-Chennai express train on Friday turned out to be a hoax,police said.

The Salem railway station received a call at around 9 am stating that “some terrorists” are travelling in one of the coaches of the Mangalore-Chennai express with bombs.

The railway authorities immediately informed the police,who searched all the coaches of the train when it reached in Salem at 9.45 am.

A sniffer dog was also pressed into the service. However,nothing suspicious could be traced in the train and the train continued with its journey,police said.

The call was later traced to a local phone booth. Meanwhile,a pistol being carried by a police official went off “accidentally”,creating panic while the search process was on in the train.

Luckily,nobody was injured in the incident,police said. The pistol went off “accidentally” while a police official was unloading it,according to police.
