Ghar wapsi’ not a government programme: Amit Shah

The “ghar wapsi” campaign launched by a section of the RSS is “not a government programme”, and the BJP would like all political parties to support a law against conversions, party national president Amit Shah said here Saturday.

Shah was on a visit to Karnataka to interact with party cadres and launch a membership drive intended to enroll one crore new members by March.

Shah said the BJP was opposed to forceful conversions and “parties that call themselves secular should support the BJP in bringing in a law to stop forceful conversions”.

Shah launched an attack on the Congress government in Karnataka, calling it “a non-performing, corrupt government that is proving to be a failure in matters of governance and law and order”.

Shah said the BJP would launch a campaign against the Congress government’s withdrawal of the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Protection Bill of 2010 and an amended 2012 version introduced by BJP when it was in power in the state.
