A day after the suicide of an executive road construction engineer in Sitamarhi,Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday asserted blackmailing of officials engaged in development works will not be tolerated following reports that the engineer had received life threats.
Yogendra Pandey,an executive engineer of the RCD had allegedly jumped from a government building at Dumra in Sitamrhi district on Thursday,police sources said.
While initially it was suggested Pandey might have commited suicide due to some office-related problem,some reports on Friday spoke about a threat to his life by a local contractor.
Expressing shock over the incident,Kumar told senior officials,the law enforcing machinery must ensure proper security to the agencies and officials engaged in development works. Any kind of blackmailing of techincal persons and agencies must not be tolerated.
Chief Secretary R J M Pillai,Director General of Police D N Gautam were present at the deliberations where Kumar directed to ensure that engineers and agencies of RCD,Building Construction,Rural Works,Water Resources and Public Health and Engineering departments were given proper security.
SUICIDE-NITISH 2 LAST Asking the officials to ensure strict legal action against the blackmailers,Kumar said action would be initiated against the police officials if they failed to initiate proper action against anti-social elements even after receiving complaints from the engineers and the implementing agencies.
The anti-social elements out to put a brake on development works should be booked at any cost,Kumar told Pillai and Gautam.
