An animal rights NGO today demanded a ban on animal sacrifice during religious rituals in Orissa.
In a letter to the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik,activists of the People For Animal (PFA) said Bills against animal sacrifice have already been passed in Andhra Pradesh,Gujarat,Karnatak,Kerala,Pondicherry,Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
It demanded introduction and passing of similar Bill in Orissa too. An Act to that end would help increase general awareness against merciless killing of animals in the name of God.
PFA Secretary J B Das said thousands of animals and birds are sacrificed every year in different temples.
