Cop shot live-in partner,then killed himself: Probe

Dr Deepak Mathur,forensic specialist at the Civil Hospital (Gurgaon) said,“Medical examination has confirmed that the bullet injuries are of a suicidal nature. Badrish Dutt received a bullet that entered through his right temporal and exited from his left temporal. As for his live-in partner Geeta Sharma, the bullet entered the back side of her head (mid-occipital and vertex) and exited from the right temporal near the ear.”

Mathur said the report made it clear that it was Dutt who shot Sharma,as she could not have shot herself at the back of her head. After shooting Sharma dead,he killed himself.

Police,had earlier suspected that it was Sharma who had shot the both of them,as Dutt’s service revolver was found lying near her body.

Medical examination also confirmed that both died around 1 am on Saturday. The bullet from the service revolver was fired at contact range and both of them bled to death. There were only bullet injuries on both bodies and there was no sign of any physical violence,Mathur said.

Medical examination also pointed to subtle signs of liquor consumption. But since they had eaten dinner just before the incident,it couldn’t be ascertained. Whether they were under the influence of alcohol will only be confirmed after a chemical examination is done,Mathur said.

Doctors have sent the swabs of gun-powder residue from both Sharma’s and Dutt’s hands to confirm the exact sequence of who shot whom.

Commissioner of Police (Gurgaon) Alok Mittal said,“We had also called in a ballistic expert and forensic examination shows that it was Dutt who shot Sharma and then himself. It is a case of homicide and then suicide.”
