CBI for polygraph test on 2 MLAs

CBI on Friday moved an application before a Panchkula CBI court to carry out polygraph tests on Haryana MLAs Zile Ram Sharma and Om Prakash Jain in connection with the 2011 murder of the sarpanch of Karnal districts Kambopura village.

The CBI on Friday moved an application before a Panchkula CBI court to carry out polygraph tests on Haryana MLAs Zile Ram Sharma and Om Prakash Jain in connection with the 2011 murder of the sarpanch of Karnal districts Kambopura village. The plea was allowed by special CBI magistrate and senior judge (civil division) Dr Atul Marya.

The MLAs appeared in the court and said they have no objection to the polygraph tests. While Sharma is the MLA from Assandh in Karnal,O P Jain is the Panipat MLA.

Seeking a proper probe,their counsel S P S Parmar said the CBI was falsely implicating the MLAs in the murder case. He added that the CBI case against the MLAs was not tenable as a probe by the Haryana Police had earlier exonerated them in the case.

In August 2012,the Punjab and Haryana High court had handed over the probe of the case to the CBI while refusing to go by the Haryana Police report that the sarpanch had committed suicide.

Parmar told the court that the sarpanch had died consuming aluminum phosphide,a repugnant substance,which when mixed with any beverage,produces a foul smell.

The role of the MLAs had come under scanner after the death of the sarpanch,who had levelled complaint of forgery and cheating against Jain and Sharma.
