Cashier chargesheeted for misappropriating money

State Vigilance Organisation on Thursday chargesheeted a transport department official for allegedly misappropriating money to the tune of Rs 3.81 lakh.

The chargesheet,alleged that Bilal Ahmad Sofi,a cashier,posted with the office of Assistant Regional Transport Officer in Pulwama,received a token tax of Rs 3,86,000 from 76 vehicle owners during the year 2007-08 but he deposited a meagre amount of Rs 4,230 only in the government treasury.

A case under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and Ranbir Panel Code was registered on June 12,2008,against the accused following an investigation,a SVO spokesman said.

The next date of hearing has been fixed by the court of special judge Anti-Corruption,Kashmir,on December 30.
