Punjab to replicate Lahore waste disposal model
Jalalabad: The Punjab government is contemplating replicating the Solid Waste Management Model,followed by Lahore,in the states urban clusters. A three member delegation of the Turk Company,responsible for waste management in the Pakistani city,on Tuesday gave a presentation to Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal at Jalalabad,in which senior officers of the state government were also present. The firms visit comes in the wake of commissioners of Punjabs corporations having visited Lahore to study waste management.
Two govt medical colleges get grants
Chandigarh: The Punjab government has disbursed Rs. 3.51 crore to two government medical colleges in Patiala and Amristsar,to enable them to provide free medicines to patients,Medical Education and Research Minister Chunni Lal Bhagat said on Tuesday. After presiding over a departmental meeting with senior officers,Bhagat added that Rs. 1.52 crore has been allocated to the Government Medical College,Amritsar,while Rs. 1.98 crore has been released to Government Medical College,Patiala.
Civil supplies dept promotes 52 officers
Chandigarh: The Punjab Food and Civil Supplies Department on Tuesday promoted a record number of its 52 officers including 48 inspectors and 8 junior auditors to the post of Assistant Food Supplies Officers. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Partap Singh Kairon handed over the promotion letters at a function in the Punjab Bhawan on Tuesday.
Woman picked up for husbands death
Hoshiarpur: The Hoshiarpur police have picked up a woman in connection with her husbands death. Satinder Singh (45) of Kokla Vihar region was found dead near canal on Tuesday and police have rounded up his wife,Parveen Kumari. Local residents,however,said the victim was a drug addict and had some scuffle with a few people,in which he was allegedly hit leading to his death. Police are yet to register a case.
Punjab allocates fund for SC/STs,OBCs
Chandigarh: The Punjab government has launched various welfare schemes in the state and has allocated a dedicated fund of Rs 2113.09 crore for the welfare of scheduled castes,backward classes and economically weaker sections of society,Cabinet Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike said on Tuesday. He added that the government has decided to include backward classes and economically weaker sections in its Shagun Scheme.
State to build night shelters for labourers
Chandigarh: The Punjab Government is all set to build sheds and night shelters for construction workers at a cost of Rs 10 crore,Labour Minister Surjit Kumar Jayani said on Tuesday. He added that the scheme will cover around 1,012,67 construction workers,who are registered as beneficiaries with the Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
