Receiving death threats for complaint
Chandigarh: The Vice-Chairman of Punjab State Road Safety Council,Dr Kamaljeet Soi,has revealed that he has been getting death threats after having written a letter to the high court demanding action against those responsible for death of 12 children in a school bus accident. We are losing 4,000 people annually due to road accidents and many thousands are getting crippled for life, read the letter,which was converted to a PIL. Soi had demanded that accountability be fixed and exemplary punishment meted out to those responsible for such accidents. The PIL will come up for hearing on May 25.
Three-member Pak team in Amritsar
Amritsar: A three-member delegation from Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) from Pakistan,led by LWMC Managing Director Wasim Ajmal,arrived in Amritsar on Monday after crossing over from Attari land border to hold talks for replicating waste management model of Lahore in Punjab cities. The members,during their four-day stay,is scheduled to visit Ludhiana,Jalandhar and Chandigarh. A delegation of Punjab government led by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal had visited Lahore in November 2012 and was impressed with cleanliness in Lahore achieved through waste management plant set up with Turkish investment and know how.
Kali: Negligence in SC scheme
Chandigarh: In an open letter to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,Desraj Kali spokesman of Dr Ambedkar Educational Maha Sangh,India has stated that his government was showing utter neglect to the centre-state scheme for providing Post-Matric Scholarships to SC students for higher studies. Under this scheme,the state is required to administer free education to students,for which,the central government has offered crores of rupees. Accordingly,the Punjab government had issued a notification on July 11,2007 to implement the scheme.
Womans burnt body found in Jalandhar
Jalandhar: A womans burnt body was found at Kotli Sheikhey village near Lamma Pind Chowk on Monday at around 7 am. The body,which was recovered from a vacant plot,was not removed from the plot till noon as police could not decide on whose jurisdiction the crime fell. Neither Jalandhar rural nor the Commissionerate police were ready to take responsibility.
Validity of power of attorneys extended
Amritsar: Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia has announced to increase the validity of power of attorneys related to sale and purchase of properties up to April 30,2013 in Amritsar and Jalandhar. Earlier,the last date for the same was March 31,2013. Majithia said extension had been given on the demand of people and there would be no further extension after this.
Workshop on RTS Act,e-governance
Chandigarh: To ensure the effective implementation of Right to Service Act and to highlight the initiatives taken by the Punjab Government in the field of e-Governance,the Punjab Right to Service Commission (PRSC) today organised a training programme for all commissioners,top police officials and municipal officers. Commissioner of PRSC,S M Sharma,said that at present 69 services are delivered under RTS Act.
