While BJP MP and actor Hema Malini’s condition was stable, the full extent of the injuries suffered by several others, undergoing treatment at another hospital, had not been ascertained.

A six year old child among the injured, sustained fractures in both legs and was being checked for any internal head injuries, doctors at the SMS hospital said.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje visited the injured at the SMS hospital as well as the BJP MP undergoing treatment at Fortis hospital.

“Hema Malini underwent surgery between midnight and 2 am today. She had suffered a nasal fracture and other injuries on para-nasal points,” said Dr Pritam Tamboli.

The actor, who was brought to the hospital at 9.35 pm, was assessed by a team of super specialists in charge of internal medicine, neurosurgery, plastic surgery and orthopedics.

The plastic surgery team led by Sandeepan Mukul found she had “laceration in paranasal area and on forehead near the right eyebrow”.

“A surgery of debridement and repair of lacerated wounds was done post midnight. We are happy to share that her clinical parameters are running within normal limits and she is doing fine,” a statement issued by the hospital said.

“She had breakfast today. We will review her condition in the afternoon once again,” said Dr Tamboli.

Malini’s driver Mukesh Thakur, arrested by the police following Thursday night’s accident, escaped injuries because the car’s front airbags were deployed on impact.

The BJP MP however, was seated in the backseat on the left side and hit the LCD screen fitted behind the front seat.

“The impact of the accident was on the car’s right side and the MP was seated on the left in the backseat. That is why she suffered the injury,” investigating officer Rajendra Tyagi told The Indian Express.
