Actor-turned-politician and Congress MP Raj Babbar on Friday visited Amritsar to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple and made veiled attacks on the SAD-BJP government, blaming their political mileage policies for the states Rs 1-lakh crore debt. He also triggered speculations that he might be the Congress candidates from Amritsar in Punjab in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in 2014.
Babbar, who is also a Congress spokesperson,in a stereotypical political reply to a question on the issue, said he would contest from whichever place the party would ask him to,he also went on to say that he would love to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple daily.
Continuing in the same breath, however,he gave another twist to his statement saying that it could also be possible (paying obeisance at Golden Temple daily),if people of the city made him own some hotels in the city.
Waheguru. Sarbat Da Bhala (Waheguru. Welfare for all), was the first reaction of the Firozabad MP,when he was asked whether the visit to the city was aimed at launching him as the partys candidate for the upcoming polls.
So far, neither has the party asked me (me to contest from Amritsar),nor have I been invited (to contest), he said adding that he was in the city to visit the temple on his son Arya Babbars birthday and the release of his (Arya) film Jatts in Golmaal.
Lamenting that the Punjab government was in debt of Rs 1 lakh crore,Babbar said,Politics and governments aside, efforts should be made to make schemes for public welfare and not for political mileage. The schemes should ensure that common people breathe easy.
The Centre sanctions several crores under various schemes. The money released by the Central government should be used only for the purpose it is meant for and should not be diverted, Babbar said.
When asked about what he thought of the performance of BJP leader Navjot Sidhu as Amritsar MP,Babbar said he wasnt quite aware of what Sidhu was doing politically. Notably, uncertainty prevails over the candidature of 3-time MP Sidhu on the BJP ticket from Amritsar after his wife and he had alleged that projects pursued by him were scuttled by some people and that he was sidelined by the party.
If Sidhu is fielded again from Amritsar by the BJP and if speculations about Babbar ring true, then Amritsar will have a star fight in the coming Lok Sabha polls.
Vindoos act wont affect industry
Responding to a query relating to the arrest of Vindoo in connection with the alleged spot-fixing scandal and its cascading effect on the Indian film industry,Babbar said that the act of one person would not have any impact on his/her city or organisation.
