12 day long strike ends in Jammu

Gafoor Dar,EJAC senior leader said,'We have decided to suspend the work as the chief minister has assured in yesterday’s statement that our demands will be met as the administration is formulating a roadmap'.

Finally,the 12-day long strike called by 4.50 lakh state government employees ended today with Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) saying that they have deferred the strike for next few months after the assurance of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Gafoor Dar,EJAC senior leader said,“We have decided to suspend the work as the chief minister has assured in yesterday’s statement that our demands will be met as the administration is formulating a roadmap”.

He said that since the High Court has also described the employees strike as illegal and keeping in view the interests of the common man,they have decided to resume the work from tomorrow.

Dar said that government has also assured that the union leaders detained by the administration will be released and ESMA will also be lifted from the state.

“We hope that this time the Chief Minister will not betray employees and as stated in the statement yesterday,will resolve the issue of the employees in next three months”,Dar said.

Dar said that employees were forced to take the path of agitation due to the policy of the state government,but keeping in view the hardships faced by the general public we have called off the strike.

“We still have kept our options open,we have deferred our strike as we are looking towards the state government to solve the issue of 6th Pay Commission,keeping in view the rising prices of the essential commodities”,said Dar.

It is pertinent to mention here that Chief Minister had yesterday said that the issue about raising the age of retirement from 58 to 60 years needs wider consultation and public debate because of its ramifications.

On the demand of HRA,the Omar had said that the matter has already been decided between the Cabinet Sub-Committee and the employees and it will take 2 to 3 months to make a road map as to how to pay the arrears to the employees.

It is pertinent to mention here that since April 3,all government offices,government schools,civil secretariat and Public Service Undertakings (PSUs) are closed in response to the strike call given by various employee unions,who are demanding implementation of all the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission Report.

Employees are demanding issuance of order for regularization of all temporary,adhoc,consolidated,contractual employees and daily rated workers before and after 1994. Removal of pay anomalies of various cadres,enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60 years,conversion of COLA into DA of PSUs.
