Slamming the Congress, the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday rejected charges of corruption and illegal land sales levelled against Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal,MP Anurag Thakur and other party leaders in the Congress chargesheet submitted to President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference here,BJP state president Satpal Satti said most allegations in the chargesheet lacked evidence and were unfounded. He added that it was a diversionary tactic to deflect attention from the serious infighting and the factional war within the Congress.
The BJPs first objection is why the Congress chose to submit the chargesheet to the President instead of the state Governor. The Congress leaders, who never supported the BJP government on the issues relating to Himachal Pradeshs rights have chosen to go to Delhi to submit the chargesheet, he said.
Satti said the Congress had no moral right to level corruption charges against the BJP government as only recently former union minister Virbhadra Singh was made to resign after being charged in a corruption case. Former Congress minister Asha Kumari has also been facing trial in a property case and charges had been framed against her,he added. Claiming that Anurag Thakur, who heads the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA),was being targeted because he was the CMs son,Satti said that the HPCA-conducted cricket matches had added to the states tourism and had put it on the international map.
Some of the Congress leaders, including CLP leader Vidya Stokes and former minister Ram Lal Thakur who headed sports bodies did nothing for Himachal Pradesh but Anurag Thakur has changed the face of the sports sector in Himachal,Satti added.
