4 Haryana cops get jail terms for graft

Four Haryana police personnel,including a subinspector and three head constables have been convicted and sentenced to varying jail terms on charges of demanding and accepting bribe in separate cases registered by the State Vigilance Bureau (VB).

Four Haryana police personnel,including a subinspector and three head constables have been convicted and sentenced to varying jail terms on charges of demanding and accepting bribe in separate cases registered by the State Vigilance Bureau (VB).

Giving details of the cases,a VB spokesperson said that a Fatehabad court had sentenced sub-inspector Sita Ram,posted at Bhattu police station in the district,to one year in jail and a fine of Rs 2,000.

“The accused was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from Partap Singh,a resident of Banawali village,in the district in lieu of not registering a bogus case against him,” the spokesperson said.

In another case,the court of Additional Sessions Judge,Narnaul,found head constables Nihal Singh and Karan Singh and another person,Raj Kumar,guilty of accepting Rs 7,000 from Munshi Ram,a resident of Mundia Kher,in Narnaul in bribe for not implicating his son in a criminal case.

While Nihal Singh and Raj Kumar have been sentenced to two years’ rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 each,Karan Singh has been sentenced to one year in jail and a fine of Rs 2,000.

In another case,head constable Vijay Kumar has been sentenced to threeand- a-half years in jail and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 by the Court of Special Judge,Gurgaon. He had taken a bribe of Rs 2,000 from Sandeep,a resident of Mahavir Puna,Gurgaon,in lieu of making a fake report to release the complainant’s vehicle.
