Two daily wagers electrocuted in Jammu

Officiating Chief Engineer Ashwani Gupta said that the daily wagers were not officially deputed on the high tension wire, neither they had taken any power shut down from the department.

TWO daily wagers working with Power Development Department were electrocuted and another seriously injured while working on an 11 KV high tension wire at Seri Pandita on the outskirts of Jammu city on Monday.

Identifying the deceased as Kewal Krishan and Devi Singh, sources said that injured Sanjeev was hospitalised and his condition is serious.

Officiating Chief Engineer Ashwani Gupta said that the daily wagers were not officially deputed on the high tension wire, neither they had taken any power shut down from the department. However, a departmental inquiry has been ordered into the matter, he added.

Meanwhile, police too have registered a case under section 304-A of Ranbir Penal Code.

A senior PDD engineer said that the victims appeared to be working for some private party who wanted to get the high tension wire diverted from over his land. For the purpose, they were erecting electric poles which had not been issued by the department, said Assistant Executive Engineer Suresh Soodan.
