Congress leader Siddharth Patel demands immediate release of Hardik Patel

The Congress leader said that the state BJP government had been violating all democratic norms by committing excesses on Hardik Patel and his associates.

Siddharth Patel, former president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee(GPCC) has demanded immediate release of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader Hardik Patel jailed for eight months on charges of sedition booked against him.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Congress leader said that the state BJP government had been violating all democratic norms by committing excesses on Hardik Patel and his associates. “The state government is harassing Hardik Patel and his associates by booking them under sedition charges,” said Patel.

Stating that even MLAs were not allowed to attend chief minister’s public programmes and put under virtual house arrest, Patel said “one wonders if this is Gandhi-Sardar’s Gujarat?”.
