Hitting out at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for “falsifications” and “spreading canards” about demonetisation, BJP on Monday asked her to come clean on charges of receiving huge funds from a fictitious company before 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Coming down heavily on Mamata for saying that anyone who opposed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy was equated with corruption, BJP national secretary Sidharth Nath Singh claimed: “Mamata Banerjee resembles the comic character of Betal. She keeps on blabbering lies, false statements and canards. She should stop spreading those lies. She is questioning the prime minister, but what is her credibility?”

“She had arrested a professor for circulating cartoons, and a farmer for seeking clarification regarding crops. She had asked the police administration to harass a college student for questioning her. She should not make those statements,” Singh added.
“She is yet to answer our queries about the involvement of her party leaders in Narada and Saradha scam. I would like to ask her what is the basis of the huge donation that her party had received from a fictitious company. From where did this black money come?” he asked.
The ED had in March 2015 launched an investigation to determine whether TMC had received laundered money through donations and loans from a little-known firm.
Speaking to The Indian Express, senior BJP leader and co-convenor for Bengal Suresh Pujari said: “Is Mamata worried about the inconvenience of the people, or she is shouting because she is the most inconvenienced herself? She and her party members have amassed a lot of money through illicit ways, mainly through milking chit fund companies, and those have been stashed away in denominations of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500. Now, she is at a loss as to what to do with these.”

He also said Mamata knew very well that there was no question of a rollback of the decision.
“Mamata has no issue in hand to criticise the Centre with, so she has picked this up when the entire country is supporting the decision. I was in Cooch Behar for the bypolls, and I asked people if they were in support of demonetisation. I had expected a mixed reaction, but to my surprise, there was a chorus of appreciation,” he said.
Former state BJP president and present national secretary Rahul Sinha said: “Why is Mamata bothering to tour the country against the PM’s decision? How many people know her? Modi had said those involved with chit fund companies would be against this. He didn’t name anyone in particular …Mamata was the only one to have reacted to the speech. Why is that so? If she is so interested in leading the country, she should first step down from the post of chief minister,” Sinha said.
