IMD India Weather Forecast Highlights: The cumulative death toll due to heavy rain-related incidents in Himachal Pradesh rose to 80, as of Tuesday, with 52 fatalities directly attributed to disasters such as landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts, while 28 deaths were due to other causes including road accidents, news agency ANI reported quoting the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA). In addition, the state has seen 128 people injured, 320 houses fully damaged, and 38 partially damaged, 10,254 livestock and poultry deaths and damage to public infrastructure worth Rs 69,265.60 lakh, as per the report.
Meanwhile, waterlogging was reported in several parts of Kolkata Tuesday morning as heavy rains lashed southern West Bengal, officials told news agency PTI. It was reported from Shyambazar, Ultadanga, Dhakuria, Ballygunge, Behala, and parts of EM Bypass in Kolkata, Sector 5 in Salt Lake, and parts of Howrah city. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers at most places across the region, with isolated spells of heavy rainfall, PTI reported.
Delhi weather: Delhi is under a ‘yellow alert’ with rain and thunderstorms forecast for Tuesday, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 27 degrees Celsius, 0.9 notch above normal, according to the weather department, PTI reported. The IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain expected during the day with the maximum temperature likely to settle at 34 degrees Celsius.
The gates of Anicut dam were opened on Tuesday to control the rising water levels of the Kaveri river in West Bengal's Midnapore district, news agency PTI reported.

Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district Tuesday received heavy rainfall leading to waterlogging in several areas, as per news agency PTI.
The traffic on National Highway in Panjpeer area of the district was also affected due to waterlogged roads.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Tuesday predicted hot and humid weather conditions for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Konkan & Goa, ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra over the next seven days, the IMD stated in its forecast.
Gujarat region and Marathwada are likely to witness heavy rainfall today.
Meanwhile, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will experience isolated heavy rainfall this week, according to the weather agency.
Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Northwest India, including Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan and East Uttar Pradesh, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated in its forecast on Tuesday.
Coastal Karnataka, Mahe, and Kerala are also likely to witness isolated heavy rainfall, the IMD stated. Telangana, meanwhile, will experience isolated very heavy rainfall today and tomorrow.
Strong surface winds are also likely to prevail over the South Peninsular Indian during the next five days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Tuesday, in its forecast, predicted isolated heavy rainfall in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha, today.
Referring to the devastating July 1 cloudbursts in Himachal Pradesh's Seraj and Mandi, Naresh Chauhan, Media Advisor to the Chief Minister told ANI that efforts are on to restore.
"Eight to ten cloudbursts occurred in a single day. Our entire administration responded with full force Deputy Chief Minister, the PWD Minister, and I personally visited the affected areas. Hundreds of machines are working to clear roads and restore water schemes. Army, NDRF and SDRF teams are on the ground," he said. (ANI)
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Monday chaired a high-level state disaster management meeting, stressing the need for "scientific road construction practices, especially on four-lane and national highway projects," news agency ANI reported.
In an attempt to improve state's disaster resilience, the CM said that proper slope cutting and soil testing must be mandatory to prevent landslides and construction-related disasters.
"We have also issued instructions that muck disposal should be done in scientifically identified and developed sites. If needed, the government can even pay private landowners for proper dumping sites," he said, directing the PWD to act on this front.
The CM also called for strict implementation of regulations that prohibit construction within 50 meters of rivers and streams. "From 2023 till now, 25,000 houses have been damaged. This is a matter of deep concern. We must now ensure all construction includes soil testing and that the quality of structures is monitored," said.
"We will connect the SDRF with the general public. The police and Home Guards will be trained as well so that in future, we are fully prepared to respond to disasters," Naresh Chauhan, Media Advisor to the Chief Minister added. (ANI)
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Monday chaired a high-level meeting of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), news agency ANI reported.
The review focused on intensifying disaster preparedness given the increasingly destructive monsoon patterns and repeated cloudburst incidents in the state.
Naresh Chauhan, Media Advisor to the Chief Minister, addressing reporters, said, "Whether we look at 2023, 2024, or this year, Himachal has suffered major losses due to cloudbursts and monsoon rains, especially in Mandi, Thunag, Karsog, Dharampur and other regions."
Announcing the plans that were discussed during the high-level meeting, Chauhan said a plan was discussed to strengthen the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), with a proposed investment of Rs 819 crore, ANI quoted.
Training will be imparted to 70,000 citizens about 1 per cent of the state's population through the Civil Defence and Home Guard framework, with each participant undergoing 15 days of training, he said.
A major SDRF infrastructure centre is also coming up in Palampur, Kangra district and training modules are also being developed under SIDM, and a resource bank will be maintained in collaboration with Himachal Pradesh University. (ANI)
Waterlogging was reported in several parts of Kolkata on Tuesday morning as heavy rains lashed southern West Bengal, officials told news agency PTI.

"Surface wind speeds are likely to reach 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, along and off the West Bengal-Odisha coast and the north Bay of Bengal between July 7 and 8. Sea conditions will be rough to very rough," the IMD said in a bulletin.
Civic personnel were working to clear the water, but more rain could cause impediments, an official said. (PTI)

Massive damage to crops, roads, bridges, and power infrastructure has been reported, especially in Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, and Shimla, news agency ANI reported, amid heavy rainfall across parts of Himachal Pradesh.

The SDMA report, covering the period from June 20 to July 7, also recorded 28 deaths under "other causes" including electrocution, snake bites, and falls from steep terrain, whereas 14 due to cloudbursts, 8 in flash floods, 1 from landslides, among other causes, ANI quoted.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi remained in the 'satisfactory' category for the 12th consecutive day on Monday, the cleanest spell recorded so far this year.
Most parts of the city recorded below-normal maximum temperatures due to rain in the early hours.
The AQI was recorded at 85 at 4 pm on Monday, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
It has remained below 100 throughout the last 12 days, after plunging from 134 (moderate category) on June 25 to 94 (satisfactory) on June 26.

Meghalaya's Sohra, considered the wettest place on earth, this June received barely one-third of the rainfall it recorded in the same month last year, deepening concerns over the impact of climate change.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Sohra, also known as Cherrapunji, recorded only 1,095.4 mm of rainfall this June, a sharp drop from 3,041.2 mm it received in the same period last year.
This is among the steepest year-on-year declines in rainfall in the region, an IMD official said.
"This is deeply concerning. Sohra has been witnessing irregular rainfall for years, but such a sharp drop in June is alarming," he said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall across most parts of West Bengal on Monday, July 7. Isolated areas in some districts are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall as a low-pressure area persists over Gangetic West Bengal with an active monsoon flow.
Due to heavy rain since Sunday 4 pm, some roads in Odisha's Balasore town area were inundated, news agency PTI reported quoting an official.
Water also entered into some villages and crop fields in Sundargarh and Jharsuguda districts, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said.
Pujari said teams of the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and fire and emergency services have been kept on alert to deal with any eventuality.
The field-level revenue officers have been asked to shift people if water enters their homes, he said, adding that dry food along with polythene sheets have been kept ready, as per the PTI report.
Water levels of major rivers, including Mahanadi, rose on Monday after heavy rainfall in Odisha, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari told news agency PTI.
In view of heavy rainfall continuing over the upper catchment areas of the Mahanadi basin, the authorities concerned have opened 20 sluice gates at Hirakud Dam to discharge water.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for 16 of 30 districts of Odisha for Monday, as per a PTI report.
The weather office, issuing an 'orange' alert, said heavy to very heavy rain with lightning and gusty wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is expected to occur in Keonjhar, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, and Nuapada on Monday.
A ‘yellow’ warning (be aware) has also been issued for Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Cuttack and Dhenkanal for the day, as per the report.
Besides, thunderstorms with lightning are likely to occur in some places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, it said. (PTI)
Two women were killed and an eight-year-old girl was injured after a wall of an under-construction poultry farm collapsed due to heavy rain in Odisha’s Nuapada district, police said on Monday, news agency PTI reported.
The incident occurred on Sunday in the Lakhana area after the wall collapsed, and the deceased were identified as Balmati Sabar (35) and Rupe Sabar (61), a senior officer told PTI.
Injured minor Ridhi Sabar is undergoing treatment, he said. (PTI)

A flash flood warning has been issued for 12 districts in Jharkhand till 5.30 pm on Monday, as moderate to heavy rainfall lashed major parts of the state, an IMD official told news agency PTI.
The districts that fall under the flash flood risk include Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega, Khunti, Ranchi, Bokaro, Saraikela, West and East Singhbhum, according to a bulletin of India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Major parts of Jharkhand, including Ranchi, have been experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall since Sunday. Ranchi Meteorological Centre Deputy Director Abhishek Anand said the rainfall is caused by a cyclonic circulation and trough.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected across Jharkhand on Monday, and some places of the western and southern parts of the state may witness downpour, he told PTI.
Jharkhand has recorded 69 per cent surplus rainfall between June 1 and July 6, he said. The eastern state received 417.2 mm of precipitation against the normal of 246.2 mm during the period.
Latehar district recorded the highest surplus rainfall at 157 per cent, followed by Ranchi at 156 per cent, the official said.
However, Deoghar and Godda were still facing deficit rainfall at 35 per cent and 28 per cent respectively, he added. (PTI)
Traffic movement on the Badrinath National Highway resumed on Monday after a temporary blockade caused by debris near Nandprayag and Umatta areas was cleared by authorities this morning, news agency ANI reported.

The Kedarnath Dham Yatra in Rudraprayag district was temporarily halted Sunday after a landslide damaged the pedestrian track near Chhodi Gadhere, about one kilometre ahead of Gaurikund, news agency ANI reported.
Authorities stated that due to the landslide, the path leading to the sacred shrine of Kedarnath had become unsafe for pilgrims, leading officials to suspend movement along the route until further notice. (ANI)

Heavy rainfall in Rudraprayag and adjacent areas of Uttarakhand Monday increased the water flow in the Alaknanda river, news agency ANI reported.
However, even after heavy rainfall and increased water flow, the river continues to flow below the danger mark.
Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district remained the second most impacted area in terms of road access, following Mandi, with 39 roads blocked in sub-divisions such as Banjar and Nirmad, owing to rainfall-triggered obstructions, news agency ANI reported.
Meanwhile, Chamba reported 32 blocked roads and 17 damaged transformers across its subdivisions, including Salooni, Dalhousie, and Bharmour.
According to the SEOC, despite widespread rainfall and localised disruptions to public utilities across Himachal Pradesh, the water levels in all major dams remained within safe operational limits. Alongside this, the hydroelectric power generation continues mainly uninterrupted. (ANI)
Thunag in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district is facing a severe water crisis after recent cloudbursts and floods washed away machinery, water pipes, and transformers used to extract and supply clean water, news agency ANI reported.
Jal Shakti Department Chief Engineer Anju Sharma visited the area to assess the damage. Speaking to ANI, she said, "All 81 panchayats in this constituency have been affected. Our people are tracing the sources... We collected all the staff as it is very difficult to reach from one place to another."
She added, "The pipes have been arranged, but it is difficult to reach... We have gone a lot back for permanent restoration. The big schemes have suffered a huge setback. Our transformers and machinery have been washed away and tracing it is a huge challenge for the department and trying to do it on war level. I want to appeal to the people to support the department and use the water from storage or hand pumps and drink only after boiling it."
BJP Lok Sabha MP from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, on Sunday visited her rain-ravaged constituency and asserted that the way relief work is being undertaken, the Congress will not return to power in the state in even 20 years.
She added that as an MP, she could only apprise the prime minister of the situation.
“I am deeply pained to see the plight of the people. They have lost family members, houses have been washed away, several people are still missing, but we can only console the families who have lost their kin, and now it is time to provide relief,” the actor said in Thunag panchayat, which was among several place in Mandi struck by a cloudburst incident on Tuesday.
“As a Member of Parliament, my responsibility is to secure funds and convey the ground reality to the government. I don’t have an independent fund, officers, or a cabinet. I may not always be visible, but I’m a Himachali, a Pahadi, and I am here for my people,” she said.
Taking a dig at the Congress government in the state, Ranaut alleged rampant corruption in the state administration. “Even in the past, when the Centre sent thousands of crores in disaster aid, the state government misused those. I fear the same might happen again,” she said. “We must find a way to ensure that relief directly reaches the affected families.”

Strong surface winds, with speed reaching 40-50 kmph, is also likely to occur South Peninsular India during the next five days, the forecast stated.
Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, Karnataka and Telangana will experience light to moderate rainfall during the next seven days.
Isolated to scattered rainfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorm and lightning is also likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana and Rayalaseema over the next seven days.

Amid heavy rainfall in the region, the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) in Uttarakhand issued a high-alert landslide warning for four districts-Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli.
Following forecasts by the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the alert is on for July 7 and 8.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely in these regions, thereby increasing the risk of slope failures and road blockages.
