The unprecedented Gen Z protests led to the collapse of the K P Sharma Oli-led Nepal government earlier this month, leading to an interim government led by former chief justice Sushila Karki.
There was chaos and turmoil on the streets of Nepal, where the parliament building was burnt, along with homes and offices of top Nepalese leaders, senior leaders and ministers were chased and beaten up at their homes and on the streets. The Nepal Army had to be deployed to control the crowd in the country.
The situation is complex and there are many questions.
How did the Gen Z protests begin? Why did it happen? What forced the Nepal government to collapse? What next for the Nepal government? What does it mean for the democracy in Nepal? How does it impact Nepal’s economy? What impact does it have on India?
For answers to these questions and more, join us for the next edition of Explained.Live with Ranjit Rae, former Indian Ambassador to Nepal, on the topic “Turmoil in Nepal: What does it mean?” at 6 pm on September 25.
He will be in conversation with Shubhajit Roy, Diplomatic Editor, The Indian Express.
