Flights to Ayodhya to operate on eight new routes from February 1

The new flight routes will connect Ayodhya with Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Patna, Darbhanga, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Tuesday announced flights on eight new routes to Ayodhya airport from February 1 to facilitate the arrival of pilgrims.

The new flight routes will connect Ayodhya with Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Patna, Darbhanga, Mumbai and Bengaluru and will be operated by SpiceJet.

Since the Pran Pratishtha ceremony at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya last week, the city has seen a massive inflow of pilgrims, with around 5 lakh people paying obeisance at the religious site on the first day itself.

To facilitate the arrival of pilgrims, the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport at Ayodhya Dham was built at a cost of Rs 1,462 crore. The newly developed 6,250 square metres of the New Terminal Building is equipped to handle over 300 passengers at peak hour. PM Modi said the airport, which has been named after Maharishi Valmiki, can handle 10 lakh passengers in a year.

Meanwhile, a new railway junction was also built in Ayodhya at a cost of Rs 251 crore.
