Ex-BJP MLA, who unsuccessfully fought 2024 J&K polls, dies by suicide at Srinagar home

Former MLA Faqir Mohammad Khan, who contested the recent assembly elections as a BJP candidate from Jammu and Kashmir’s Gurez, allegedly died by suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Srinagar.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah disclosed this during the Assembly session, which is currently underway, on Thursday.

Following the announcement, all the members of the House, including the CM, Speaker A R Rather, and the leader of the opposition Sunil Sharma observed a two-minute silence to pay homage to the deceased and convey condolences to his family.

Khan, who contested the 2024 assembly elections in Gurez as a BJP candidate, had secured 7,246 votes in the constituency. He lost to National Conference’s Nazir Ahmad Khan by a margin of only 1,132 votes.
