(Express Photo) Police on Sunday booked former Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and five others for allegedly assaulting a man at Madurai airport.
Police identified the man as Rajeshwaran, 42, a supporter of V K Sasikala, who was expelled from the party by Palaniswami months after former CM and AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa’s death in 2016. Sasikala’s nephew and EPS’s rival, T T V Dhinakaran, later launched the AMMK.
Police said the incident occurred Saturday as EPS was on his way to attend a party meeting in Sivaganga district. They said after the flight landed, Rajeshwaran, an AMMK worker, was on the same shuttle bus that EPS took towards the tarmac.
“Rajeshwaran began to yell at EPS while simultaneously recording a Facebook Live, calling him a betrayer of Sasikala. Soon, his cellphone was grabbed by EPS’s security,” a police official said.
The official said Rajeshwaran was again manhandled outside the terminal by AIADMK supporters. He said Rajeshwaran was detained and that he later filed a complaint at the Avaniyapuram police station.
