Representatives of Students’ Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) along with students of MPharmacy,Panjab University (PU) staged a protest outside the Pharmacy Department on Wednesday, demonstrating against the issue of placements of MPharma students.

Akhil Bansal, former general secretary of Panjab University Campus Students Council, and also a student of MPharmacy (final year),alleged the department of giving false information to media regarding placement of students.

“The department has shown false data to media stating that 35 of its 40 students had been placed in leading companies, this year. However, the department has, till date, not even printed the placement brochure,” Bansal said.

The students also said that they had approached the chairperson regarding the issue, but to no avail.

“Students with high ranks in the CET opted for pharmacy and after spending six years they are placed nowhere. They questioned the functioning of the placement committee of the department,” said a SOPU representative.

Department chairperson Sinha addressed the students and assured them that appropriate action will be taken. Later,Students Welfare Dean A S Ahluwalia also assured that a departmental placement committee will be formed, within the next three days,to look into its functioning along with Dr SK Chadha,Director,Central Placement Cell.
