Students of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) may be considered for admission to junior colleges in the state depending on vacant seats. However, many students have not been able to furnish marksheets as CBSE declares the class X results in the form of grades.
The problem, which was prominent last year owing to the lack of clarity from CBSE,has been toned down to a large extent this year. In a circular posted on its website, the CBSE stated that students seeking admission in Maharashtra will have to get their grade sheets converted into marks at four guidance centres R N Podar School,Santacruz (West),Apeejay School,Nerul in Navi Mumbai,DAV Public School,Airoli,Navi Mumbai and DAV Public School,Nerul,Navi Mumbai. However, students who did not check the website had to face problems during the admissions.
Rekha Palshikar,Centralised Admission Process (CAP) committee member and vice-principal of Fergusson College, said,The same problem was there last year as there was a confusion over admission of students who had appeared for school-based CBSE exams. This year,we had declared in the very beginning that these students will not get admissions. We will only try giving admissions to those students who appeared for the board exam after they submit a Rs 100 stamp paper declaring the same. However, that will be decided depending on vacant seats.
According to the circular released by the CBSE in May,students could approach CAP with a copy of their marksheet on the school letterhead bearing signatures of the principal. However,CAP authorities had cited that there was no way of confirming the authenticity of such documents.
A parent of a student from one of the CBSE schools had come to our centre today. Her ward had failed in mathematics. However, she said she will get a revised certificate by tomorrow. In such a scenario,we cannot be sure whether the documents being produced are authentic or not. Therefore,we decided we will not entertain any such documents, said an official on the condition of anonymity.
Parents who had been struggling to get their childs grades converted into marks said they were unaware of the circular posted by the CBSE. I have come from Jaipur and came to know about the conversion of grades only after reaching Pune. I was supposed to go back yesterday but had to extend my stay because of this problem, said Smriti Vaish,a parent who submitted the form at Apte Prashala, the only center accepting the forms of students from other boards.
To help parents,CAP has increased the number of centers accepting the forms.
Initially, only Fergusson College was going to accept the forms on Thursday, the last day of acceptance of forms. However, now the forms will also be accepted at Sir Parshuram College,Abasaheb Garware College,Nowrosjee Wadia College,Shri Mhalsakant College and Laxmanrao Apte College, added Palshikar.
