The two-day exhibition at Panjab Universitys A C Joshi library,which concluded on Wednesday,offered glimpses of over 200 rare books and 75 manuscripts.
The library,which has preserved over 20,000 books-with most of them been published in the 17th and 18th century,has also procured a rare collection of holy books.
These include a Bhagwad Geeta booklet-composed of rice,Quran and Ramayana. The library also has a collection of 1,492 manuscripts in a number of languages including Arabic,Persian,Devnagri,Gurmukhi,Sanskrit and Sharda-which were commonly used during the 17th and 18th century.
The oldest manuscript in the library Siraj-ul-Salikin dates back to 995 AD All these manuscripts were displayed at the two-day exhibition. The rare books displayed included History of the World published by Adam Phillip,London which is the oldest rare book in A C Joshi library. It was published in 1634.
Visitors at the exhibition said that books displayed in the library ascertained that the British not only ruled our country but also studied our culture deeply. Many of the books displayed have been authored by the British writers.
