TISS rape case: Accused remanded to judicial custody till May 13

Vinamra Soni,an accused in gangrape of a US national studying in Tata Institute of Social Sciences, has been remanded to judicial custody till May 13.

Vinamra Soni,an accused in the gangrape of a US national studying in Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai, has been remanded to judicial custody till May 13.

Soni, whose police custody ended yesterday, was produced before the Bhoiwada magistrate’s court in central Mumbai.

The prosecution sought to get his police custody again for further investigations but the defence argued that all the other accused were presently in judicial custody.

There were also no further recoveries that needed to be made from Soni and therefore his police custody was not required any more, they said.

Following the arguments, the court remanded 21-year-old Soni to judicial custody.

Soni and five others were held for allegedly gangraping the 23-year-old student on April 11 in a flat in suburban Andheri. The girl had come to India for a course in gender and development in TISS.

The five other accused are Harshwardan,Jaskar Singh Bullar,Anish Borkataki,Kundanraj Norgonain and Dev Cyrus Kulabawala.
