Two of the accused in the 2007 Mecca Masjid bomb blast case on Wednesday moved a local court seeking bail.
Devendra Gupta and Lokesh Sharma, who are presently under judicial custody here, filed a bail petition in the court of additional chief metropolitan magistrate through their counsel.
Gupta and Sharma are among the five persons who have been named as accused in the charge sheet filed by the Rajasthan ATS in the 2007 Ajmer blast case, last month.
A cell phone-triggered pipe bomb placed inside the Mecca Masjid here during Friday prayers on May 18,2007 had claimed nine lives. Five people were killed in police firing in the clashes that erupted after the blast.
CBI,which is probing the Mecca Masjid blast case, had registered a case on June 9,2007 under various sections of the IPC and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The investigating agency has so far named five persons, all allegedly having links with a right-wing Hindu outfit,as accused in the case and brought the two Ajmer blast accused to Hyderabad on June 17 as part of the investigation.
Gupta and Sharma,in their petition, contended that the CBI had not filed a charge sheet so far in the Mecca Masjid case and that they are under judicial custody since June 17.
“The mandatory period for filing charge sheet within 90 days has already been completed. It is our first bail application and we are ready to furnish sureties and abide by any terms and conditions which may be imposed by the court,” the duo submitted.
The court has asked the CBI to file their counter by November 8.
