ID parade in nun rape case deferred again

The test identification parade (TIP) in the sensational Kandhamal nun rape case was deferred for the second time this month to May 19.

The test identification parade (TIP) in the sensational Kandhamal nun rape case was deferred for the second time this month to May 19 as the victim, who wants the exercise to be shifted out of the district, did not turn up on Thursday.

Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate Dolagobinda Barik fixed May 19 for conducting the second TIP at Baliguda sub-jail after the nun’s counsel Manas Ranjan Singh moved a prayer for adjournment.

The counsel stated that the catholic nun’s application for shifting the TIP venue outside Kandhamal was pending before Orissa High Court.

The nun,who was reluctant to visit Kandhamal for the TIP as she felt unsafe, had earlier failed to appear for the exercise on May 1 and subsequently moved the High Court seeking shifting of venue.

The 29-year-old nun,who was allegedly raped at K Nuagaon under Baliguda police station during Orissa bandh on August 25,2008,had identified two persons during the first TIP held at a jail in Cuttack on January 5.

The second TIP was required as seven more accused were arrested after the first exercise.

The crime branch of Orissa police, which is probing the case, has so far arrested 17 persons while efforts are on to nab 13 others. Chargesheet in the sensational case has already been filed.
