Constable shot dead in Hyderabad

“We are examining the witnesses. It seems one or two rounds were fired at him. Who did it and in what context,we are examining it,” Hyderabad Police Commissioner A K Khan said.

The old city area had witnessed communal clashes which left three persons dead in March end and curfew had been imposed for nearly a fortnight.

Khan,however,said,”It is not correct to link this particular incident with previous such incidents. It is an unfortunate incident.

“After the recent communal clashes,we have been operating pickets and the city police is in full alert,” he said.

Following the Bangalore blasts last month,a terror alert had been sounded in Hyderabad in the wake of intelligence inputs.

Security had been beefed ahead of the second anniversary of the Mecca Masjid blast that had left five people dead as on May 18 last year terror suspect Viqaruddin had allegedly shot dead a police constable in Falaknuma area.

Police have intensified frisking in the area. “Our teams with weapons are moving in the area,” he said,adding that additional forces have been deployed.
