BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on Saturday accused the Congress of introducing “one-way secularism” in the country and surrendering to vote bank politics.
Participating in the discussion on the ‘Glorious journey of 75 years of the Constitution’ in the Lok Sabha, Surya said, “Lot was spoken about secularism. What was the pervert brand of secularism that the Congress party thrusted on this country? A Muslim could be Muslim, a Christian could be Christian but a Hindu had to be secular. This was the kind of one-way secularism that the Congress party introduced.”
“We have fought to restore democracy when you imposed Emergency, we fought to send Ambedkar to Parliament when you conspired to defeat him. We have fought to protect secularism and pluralism when you surrendered to vote bank politics, we fought to make India prosperous while you kept India poor. We have fought for ‘ek Bharat Shreshtha-Bharat’ while you supported ‘tukde-tukde’ of Bharat. We are the party that is standing against your Soros army that is trying to destabilise India. We are committed to protecting the Constitution,” Surya said.
Surya said that DMK members gave big lectures in the House on secularism while their leaders spoke of eradicating ‘sanatan dharma’.
He said that because B R Ambedkar was such a staunch opponent of Congress’ style of politics, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had declared Ambedkar as his “enemy number 1 politically”.
“And, today I heard my opponent from the Communist party state that the RSS was against Ambedkar and Ambedkar’s constitution. There can not be anything farther from truth than that assertion,” Surya said and added that two times Ambedkar’s electoral chances were thwarted by the Congress and Communists working together.
“I want to remind the nation that when Congress and the Communists were trying to defeat Ambedkar, when the Communist leader S A Dange gave the slogan ‘let your vote go waste but do not make Ambedkar win’, it was RSS pracharak Dattopant Thengadi who was working to make Ambedkar win in the election as his election agent,” said the Bangalore South MP.

When Nehru attacked the Constitution by curtailing the freedom of expression of people, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was working to protect the Constitution, the BJP MP claimed.
Surya said that the imposition of Emergency, suspending fundamental rights, arresting one lakh opposition leaders and forcible sterilisation of a million people were the attacks on the Constitution.
“Despite being banned, the RSS and the Jana Sangh fought to restore democracy in this country. This is protecting the Constitution.”
Surya said that Article 356 was misused more than 90 times, democratically elected governments were removed at the whim of leaders and that was the attack on the Constitution.

“Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas, team India approach, GST council this is Narendra Modi style of protecting the Constitution,” he said.
Surya earlier said that starting from Nehru to the Communists, India was not considered a sacred geography because they did not have the civilizational world view that India was a millennia old state.
“They considered India as a private jaagir (property) any part of which could be given to anybody at any point in time…Without even following the constitutional process of law,” he said.
Saying that the attack on the Constitution by the Congress started from the very first article — “Article 1” – Saurya added that strategically very important island between India and Sri Lanka — Kachchatheevu– was given away to Sri Lanka by the Congress and DMK in 1974 without following the any due process envisaged in the Constitution.

He claimed that recently it was learnt that the UPA government was ready to even give away Siachen to Pakistan.
“This is their commitment to the territorial integrity of this country. This is the difference between one view which considers India to be a civilizational state, a sacred geography and between one whose leader of Opposition even when he was abroad says India is not a nation but is a union of states.”
Surya called BJP the protector of the constitution and territorial integrity.
