93.03% of Class 10 students pass board examinations in Manipur

Commissioner of Education H Gyan Prakash says the marking system was replaced with a grading system to ease the stress and burden on the students.

ManipurAs many as 37,547 students—18,995 male and 18,552 female—appeared for the examinations conducted across the state from March 15 to April 3.

The results of the Class 10 examinations conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur, were declared on Monday with an unprecedented overall pass percentage of 93.03 per cent, the highest in the past decade.

The pass percentages were 76 per cent in 2022 and 82.82 per cent in 2023.

To reduce stress and competition among students, the board introduced a new grading system. Grades from A1 to E2 were awarded instead of marks, with no total or aggregate marks displayed. Students were not ranked, and only the qualified status was printed.

As many as 37,547 students—18,995 male and 18,552 female—appeared for the examinations conducted across the state from March 15 to April 3.

As usual, private schools outperformed government schools with a pass percentage of 95.93 per cent. Government schools saw a pass percentage of 84.34 per cent while government-aided schools registered a 92.74 pass percentage. Among the districts, Thoubal and Tengnoupal recorded the highest pass rates of 99.04 per cent and 99.65 per cent, respectively.

Commissioner of Education H Gyan Prakash said the marking system was replaced with a grading system to enhance students’ overall performance while minimising undue pressure and stress.

“The decision was made by the government of Manipur to reduce the heavy competition among students and to ease the stress and burden on them,” he added.
