The Centre, on Thursday, launched ‘Dark Patterns Buster Hackathon 2023’ to design an innovative app or software-based solution that can detect dark patterns on e-commerce platforms.
The hackathon has been organised by the Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA) in collaboration with IIT-(BHU) and was launched by Nidhi Khare, Special Secretary, DoCA, in presence of Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh.
Divided into four rounds, the teams will fight for a reward of Rs 1 lakh. The second, third, fourth and fifth prizes are Rs five lakh, Rs three lakh, Rs two lakh and Rs one lakh, respectively. The prize distribution will be held on World Consumer Rights Day.
“The objective of the initiative is to design an innovative app or software-based solution that can provide protection to consumers from all types of unfair trade practices,” the Department of Consumer Affairs said in a statement.
