Centre approves PM housing scheme funds release to Andhra Pradesh

Sources in the Andhra Pradesh government confirmed that the MoRD has approved the release of Rs 292 crore out of the Rs 1,170 crore pending under the PMAY-G during the current financial year. The amount will be released in the current fiscal.

The Centre has approved release of funds to Andhra Pradesh under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) after the Union Rural Development Ministry (MoRD) found there is no “irregularity” at present regarding non-adherence to the core features of the scheme as the state has taken “corrective” actions.

It is learnt that the MoRD has conveyed this to the state government. It has also informed the Ministry of Finance, which had stopped release of the funds to Andhra Pradesh after the MoRD flagged that the state government had used its own logo and name on the houses constructed under the PMAY-G.

The source said the Centre had sent the National Level Monitoring teams in the 10 districts of the state to conduct a sample check regarding alleged irregularities in the implementation of the scheme in the state. The state has rectified all the shortcomings pointed out by the Centre and it has replaced the old logo of co-branding PMAY-G with the state’s scheme with the official name and logo of PMAY-G on houses constructed under the scheme, the source said.

The source said the Andhra Pradesh government has already taken “corrective” actions and there is no irregularity at present regarding non-adherence to the core features of PMAY-G in the state. The MoRD’s latest move came after Rural Development Minister Giriraj Singh gave his approval for it.

The Centre has sanctioned 2.46 lakh houses to Andhra Pradesh under the PMAY-G, out of which only 69,905 houses have been completed till date. The state is yet to construct 1.76 lakh houses to achieve its PMAY-G target. The Centre has also sanctioned 13,249 houses under PM-JANMAN.
