Indian Railways LHB upgrade, Indian Railways LHB coaches: Indian Railways (IR) is gradually phasing out older ICF (Integral Coach Factory) coaches and replacing them with modern LHB (Linke-Hofmann-Busch) coaches. The LHB coaches are modern, stainless steel passenger rail coach designed in Germany and manufactured in India.
The LHB coaches are equipped with enhanced safety features like anti-climbing devices and fire-retardant materials and have a higher operating speed of 160 kmph, with a design speed of up to 200 kmph, compared to the older 140 kmph ICF coaches.

The LHB coaches have several other advantages including a longer car body for more space, better passenger comfort, LED lighting, 5-pin charging sockets and disc brakes for efficient braking. It also includes four emergency openable windows for quicker evacuation and an Emergency Light Unit (ELU) with a 6-hour backup.
Central Railway to replace conventional coaches with LHB coaches in selected trains
