The BJP’s Bihar wing on Sunday filed a police complaint against Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar in Patna, alleging that he used abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the RSS during a recent TV interview.

A delegation led by the BJP’s media in-charge in Bihar, Danish Eqbal, filed the complaint at the Kotwali police station. Eqbal urged the police to register an FIR against Kumar over his alleged ‘abusive’ comments.

This comes amid the Congress’ efforts to rally support ahead of the state’s Assembly elections scheduled for November, with Kumar as a key figure in its rallies.

Speaking to reporters after filing the complaint, Eqbal said, “In an interview to a private TV channel, Kanhaiya Kumar, who is a part of the ‘tukde tukde gang’, used abusive language against PM Modi and the RSS, labelling them as ‘terrorists’. I want to ask Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, ‘are you going to stay quiet about this, or are you going to continue taming these traitors?'”

“The language that he used in the interview is highly objectionable and unacceptable. We have filed a complaint against him with the police seeking immediate registration of an FIR. We are quite confident that police will take appropriate action,” he added.

‘Tukde-tukde’ became a pejorative term used to refer to JNU students after the 2016 sedition row. Kumar, who was the president of the JNU Students’ Union, representing the All India Students’ Federation (AISF), was arrested during a protest at the institution and charged with sedition.

Since then, the term has been used by right wingers for people they claim are sympathetic towards secessionists.

Kumar is currently in-charge of the Congress’ student wing NSUI and been campaigning in Bihar to rally support for the party ahead of the Assembly polls in November.

In 2019, the former AISF leader contested in the general election from Bihar’s Begusarai with a ticket from Communist Party of India but lost. He joined the Congress 2021.
