Bihar Assembly Election: Ahead of the Bihar Assembly Election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar is committed to student welfare and create opportunities for the youth in the state. He said that the RJD government of Lalu Prasad Yadav had crippled Bihar's students and it was due to the efforts of Nitish Kumar that Bihar is emerging again. Prime Minister Modi launched various youth-focused initiatives worth more than Rs 62,000 crore in Delhi at the Kaushal Deekshant Samaroh, 2025. PM Modi announced a Bihar government special student credit card, using which students can avail interest-free loans. He also said that the Bihar government has hiked the students' scholarship scheme from Rs 1,800 to Rs 3,600. PM Modi said infrastructure in Bihar is being upgraded for students and the NIT Patna Bihta campus has been already opened. 'RJD responsible for Bihar's brain drain' Training his guns on Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav's RJD, PM Modi said that the party was solely responsible for the lack of opportunities in Bihar that forced young talents to move out of the state. "This generation may not be fully aware of how Bihar's education system was neglected two decades ago. Schools were neither opened properly nor were admissions conducted fairly. Lakhs of students were forced to go to other cities or states for education, marking the beginning of mass migration. Reviving a tree whose roots are infested with insects is no small feat. RJD's misgovernance had reduced Bihar's education system to a similar condition," Modi said. "But fortunately, the people of Bihar chose the Nitish Kumar-led government. We have all witnessed how the NDA government has successfully put the broken system back on track," he said. In each of his terms over the two decades, Nitish has switched alliances to be with the BJP and the RJD alternately, earning him the name "Palturam". Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Chief Minister from 1990 to 1997 and after that his wife, Rabri Devi, took over the reins of Bihar. She sat on the CM's chair till 2005, with the exception of seven days when Nitish came to power for the first time on a Samata Party (which later merged with JD-U) ticket.
