Nearly a month after suspending a cop for allegedly manhandling a Block Development Officer, Jammu & Kashmir Police have booked another policeman for assaulting a doctor in Doda over a parking dispute.

In a statement, the J&K police said it had registered an FIR against assistant sub-inspector Ghulam Ali for allegedly assaulting a doctor in the hilly Doda district on December 3. The FIR was registered on a written complaint by Anzar Majid Malik, a doctor at the district hospital, alleging that Ali had wrongfully restrained and assaulted him.

Pointing out that an FIR was promptly registered under relevant sections of law at the Doda Police Station, the statement said that during investigation, the accused was identified as “an ASI of the Police Department”.

“Upholding its zero-tolerance policy towards any misconduct within the force, Doda Police have set the due legal process into motion,” it said.

Meanwhile, sources said police action against the ASI followed a video showing him assaulting the doctor. In the video, Malik, who was riding back home from work on his scooter Wednesday evening, is seen trying to make space for Ali’s car to leave the parking lot of a local market in Nagri.

Soon, however, Ali’s son is seen getting out of the car to argue with Malik and when the argument escalates, Ali is seen walking over to Malik, snatching away his phone and assaulting him.

This comes a month after a deputy superintendent of police from Nagrota was suspended after a video clip showed him slapping and kicking a Block Development Officer. On November 24, a local Jammu court asked the SHO of Gandhi Nagar Police Station to explain why no FIR was registered against the suspended deputy superintendent of police, his personal security officers and other accompanying police personnel.
