Buddha Purnima Bank Holiday in India 2025: Banks in a few Indian cities will remain closed today, Monday, May 12, 2025, on account of Buddha Purnima, celebrating Gautam Buddha’s 2587th birth anniversary, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday calendar for 2025.
While a few Indian cities are observing bank closures today, many are also confused about the Indian stock markets’ operational status; notably, the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE India) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) are open today.
Bank holidays in India are allotted by RBI regulations, including the Negotiable Instruments Act, RTGS holidays, and various regional and national observances.
According to its calendar for the fiscal year 2025-26, the RBI has allotted 13 bank holidays for May 2025, in addition to the mandatory weekly offs on the second Saturday and Sunday.
