After a two-month hiatus, the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Tripura’s capital Agartala announced that it will resume visa and consular services from Wednesday, news agency PTI reported.

The Commission had suspended all operations early December, citing a “security situation” that emerged after its premises were breached by a group of people protesting against the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das in Dhaka.

“All visa and consular services of the Bangladesh Asst High Commission will resume on February 5,” the report quoted the notice issued by First Secretary of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner’s office here, Md Al Amin, on Tuesday.

Security was ramped up at the premises in Agartala after the mob breached the security barricade, vandalised the property, and removed the Bangladeshi national flag.

The Indian Express had earlier reported that seven persons involved in the incident were arrested, while three police personnel posted at the Commission premises were suspended. Further, the Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Agartala Arif Mahamad was summoned to Dhaka.

Bangladesh also summoned Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma to the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Dhaka, a day after the breach.
