Naming of facilities after statehood agitation martyrs, an increase in the monthly pension for those jailed or injured during the movement, and better benefits for the dependents of those who died while protesting for Uttarakhand — ahead of the foundation day, the state government has announced a slew of assistance as the Chief Minister paid homage to martyrs at Shaheed Sthal in Dehradun.

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the creation of Uttarakhand was not merely a political decision but the result of the sacrifice, struggle, and perseverance of lakhs of people. Recalling the painful incidents of Khatima, Mussoorie, and Rampur Tiraha during the movement, which resulted in loss of lives, he said these were immortal chapters in the state’s history.

Paying homage to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the cause, he said, “The pensions and other facilities extended to them were not merely assistance but a mark of the state’s gratitude.”
