Amit Shah speaks on Prajwal Revanna: ‘Cannot be tolerated (but) why has Congress govt in Karnataka not taken action?’

Speaking in Guwahati, Shah, when asked about the allegations against Prajwal, who is also the JD(S) Lok Sabha candidate and the grandson of H D Deve Gowda, said, “It cannot be tolerated.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah broke his silence on the alleged sex abuse case involving Prajwal Revanna, an MP with BJP’s alliance partner in Karnataka, the JD(S).

Speaking in Guwahati, Shah, when asked about the allegations against Prajwal, who is also the JD(S) Lok Sabha candidate and the grandson of H D Deve Gowda, said, “It cannot be tolerated.”

However, he sought to turn the tables on the Congress government in Karnataka for delaying the investigation in the case. “The Congress which wants to accuse us, I want to ask a small thing: whose government is there? It’s a Congress government. The videos would have been in your knowledge because it was released at such a time. And till now, why has the Congress party not taken any action? The proceedings do not have to be done by us. Law and order is a state issue. Priyanka (Gandhi) ji is asking us questions, I want to ask Priyanka ji: instead of asking questions to me and Narendra Modi ji, please question your Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister on what the government is doing. Why has there not been an investigation? We are in favour of an investigation and our partner JD(S) has also said that it will take action against him,” he said.

Priyanka had on Monday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the issue and said that he should not dare talk about the “mangalsutra” of women till Prajwal is brought back to India.

On Monday, a Karnataka BJP leader, G Devaraje Gowda, had claimed that he flagged the case to the state BJP leadership – and marked the central leadership – in December.

Shah also spoke about the alleged fake video of him speaking against reservation. “The BJP will always fulfil its role for protecting the reservation” of Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBC), he said.

The video in question was allegedly doctored using deepfake technology to make it seem Shah was saying that all reservations, including that of SCs and STs, would be scrapped.

Addressing the press conference on Tuesday, Shah alleged, “The Congress wants to cause misconception among people by spreading a lie. I want to make it clear that the BJP supports reservation for SC, ST and OBC and will also fulfil its role for its protection. This has also been made clear by PM Modi in several speeches. If any party has hurt SC, ST, OBC reservation, it is the Congress.”
