Pee-gate again: Air India flyer urinates on passenger on Delhi-Bangkok flight

Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu responded to media queries, stating, “If there is any wrongdoing, we will take necessary action.”

Air indiaAir India said its crew offered help to the affected passenger to lodge a complaint with authorities in Bangkok, which was declined.

An Air India passenger allegedly urinated on a fellow traveller aboard a flight from Delhi to Bangkok on April 9. The incident has prompted both airline and government authorities to initiate probes and review responses.

The episode occurred onboard flight AI2336, where the crew had to intervene after a passenger engaged in what Air India has officially termed “unruly behavior.” The airline has since reported the matter to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and promised further investigation.

“Air India confirms that an incident of unruly passenger behaviour was reported to the cabin crew operating flight AI2336, from Delhi to Bangkok, on April 9, 2025,” the airline said in a statement. “The crew followed all laid down procedures, and the matter has been reported to the authorities.”

Air India further stated that its cabin crew had issued a warning to the offending passenger during the flight and had offered assistance to the aggrieved flyer to pursue the matter with local authorities upon landing in Bangkok. However, the affected passenger reportedly declined the offer at that time.

In response to the growing scrutiny, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu commented, “If there is any wrongdoing, we will take necessary action.” He assured that the Ministry would look into the details and speak to the airline.

The airline has also announced that a standing Independent Committee would be convened to evaluate the incident and decide on any disciplinary action against the accused flyer. “Air India continues to follow the SOPs as laid out by DGCA in such matters,” the spokesperson added.

This latest case adds to a disturbing pattern: multiple such incidents have been reported in recent years, often involving alcohol.

In March 2023, Arya Vohra, an Indian student studying at a US university, was banned by American Airlines after allegedly urinating on a co-passenger during an international flight.

Just months later, in November 2024, another case involving Shankar Mishra, a drunk male passenger urinating on an elderly woman in the business class of an Air India flight sparked widespread condemnation.
