After Rahul Gandhi urged people not to use derogatory language against BJP leader Smriti Irani, Congress leader Kishori Lal Sharma, who won the Amethi Lok Sabha seat against her, agreed with Gandhi, saying “it’s not our values to use such language against anyone”.
“He is right…. victories and losses are a part of life. These are not our values to use such language against someone,” said KL Sharma, speaking to ANI.
In the general election results announced on June 4, Irani had lost the Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh to Sharma, a veteran Congress worker and poll debutant, by a margin of 1.6 lakh votes.
Weeks after Irani’s loss, Rahul Gandhi took to social media X to say: “Winning and losing happen in life. I urge everyone to refrain from using derogatory language and being nasty towards Smt. Smriti Irani or any other leader for that matter.”
He added, “Humiliating and insulting people is a sign of weakness, not strength.”
Following her loss, Irani addressed a press conference saying, “I express my gratitude to all the BJP party workers and supporters, those who have worked in the service of the constituency and the party with utmost dedication and fidelity.”
