How to link Aadhaar number with bank account? Check step-by-step guide

Linking Aadhaar number to the bank account is usually done while opening up a new account by the bank itself as a standard procedure. In case the Aadhaar is not linked to the bank account, it can be done later via both, online and offline procedures. It has not been mandated by the government but there are several benefits of linking the bank account to Aadhaar.

Why you must link your Aadhaar number to your bank account

  1. Account holders can reap the benefit of getting government subsidies. Various government subsidies like LPG, kerosene are directly credited to the bank accounts that have been linked to individual’s Aadhaar number.
  2. Individuals can safeguard themselves from any sort of financial frauds and unauthorized transactions.
  3. Linking the bank account to the Aadhaar, helps in crediting the funds received through government scholarships, directly into beneficiaries account.

There are multiple ways of linking the bank account to the Aadhaar number such as:

Linking the bank account to Aadhaar number through the branch

Step 1: Visit the nearest branch of the bank, in which you have the account.

Step 2: From a bank representative obtain an Aadhaar linking application form .

Step 3: Fill all the required details (as bank name, bank account number, particulars, Aadhaar number, and contact information) carefully.

Step 4: Attach a copy of the Aadhaar card with the application form.

Step 5: Submit the form to the bank representative.

It is now the responsibility of the Bank representative to verify details and process your application. The bank will notify you via your registered phone number upon successful verification.

Linking the bank account to Aadhaar through net banking

Step 1: Go to the net banking portal of the bank where you hold an account.

Step 2: Log in Using your registered credentials.

Step 3: Click on the ‘Link Your Aadhaar’ option on the main page or under the ‘e-services’ option.

Step 4: Select the type of account you hold.

Step 5: Enter your Aadhaar Number and click on the ‘Submit’ button.

The bank will process the request of linking Aadhaar with your bank account. You will be notified via SMS.

Linking your bank account to Aadhaar number through ATM

Step 1: Visit the nearest ATM and swipe your ATM or debit card on the machine.

Step 2: Enter your PIN. 

Step 3: Click on the ‘Aadhaar Registration’ under the ‘Services’ option.

Step 4: Specify your account type and enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number. Re-enter it for verification. Click on the ‘Confirm’ button.

After performing the above mentioned steps you will receive a notification on your registered mobile number, specifying the successful linking of your Aadhaar number with your bank account.

Linking bank account to Aadhaar through mobile app

Step 1: Download the bank’s mobile app where you hold an account.

Step 2: Log in using your registered credentials.

Step 3: Click on the ‘services’ option.

Step 4: Click on ‘View/Update Aadhaar Card Details’.

Step 5: Enter your Aadhaar number. Re-enter it for verification.

Step 6: Click on the ‘Submit’ option. 

Linking bank account to Aadhaar through a missed call

Step 1: Give a missed call on your bank accounts number.

Step 2: Attend the call back made by the bank.

Step 3: Enter your Aadhaar number carefully.

 A confirmation message will be sent to you by the bank, stating the successful linking of your bank account with the Aadhaar number.

Linking your bank account to your Aadhaar through SMS 

Step 1: Send the message ‘UID (Space) Aadhaar number’ via SMS from your mobile number registered to your bank’s SMS service.

Step 2: You will have to send the last six digits of your account number for some banks, followed by the Aadhaar number.

You will receive an acknowledgement message on your registered mobile number after sending the linking message. Then, the bank representative will verify your details with UIDAI. After successful verification, you will receive a confirmation message.
