After a long wait of almost four years, Made in Heaven is all set to return with another season. Starring Shobhita Dhulipala, Arjun Mathur, Jim Sarbh in the lead roles, the show will drop on August 10. At the trailer launch, directors Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti, Alankrita Shrivastava, Nitya Mehra and Neeraj Ghaywan joined the cast to talk about the show.
Zoya spoke about how fans have been waiting for Made in Heaven Season 2 for too long now, even being irritated with the delay. Recalling its journey, the filmmaker said that they didn’t expect such a heartening reception. She said that it was among the first shows happening out of India, and nobody knew how it would land. “We were extremely nervous when it came out. But it picked up, and picked up. It has got a loyal fandom, no matter what I post, I am asked about Made in Heaven. Now, it’s been so long, I am being trolled, so I wanted to drop it because the show’s fans were getting irritated. I’m thankful to them that they have held on to it and haven’t forgotten it.”

Reema Kagti echoed Zoya’s thoughts and shared that they took a long time to write it. She added that given the first season did well, they wanted to up their game with Made in Heaven 2. The writer-director also claimed that Covid-19 created a lot of chaos during the shoot.
Producer Ritesh Sidhwani added that a lot has changed from season one but Zoya and Reema are known to always deliver the best. Talking about the second season, he shared that a lot of time went into research.
“A lot of what you see in season one reflected what was going on within society at that point. Season 2 has taken so much time because you have to push the boundaries,” he said.
The producer added that the content consumption pattern has changed with time, and that has given storytellers the opportunity to tell slightly more different and nuanced stories “which we would find very difficult to bring into mainstream cinema.”
Ritesh added that he keeps urging his team to write better, and do better work. “With Made in Heaven season two I can’t reveal the spoilers, but there are certain boundaries that are being pushed. You are going into a zone of what is conventional, you are challenging that and there are certain issues that will be brought to the forefront,” he added.

Calling her lead characters Tara and Karan ‘nonconformist and quite grey’, Zoya Akhtar shared that the show has been “lensed through women and the LGBTQ community”. She added that the new season is an expansion of that thematically. “It’s also about fitting into a society,” she said.
Alankrita Shrivastava also took the podium to share that their endeavour with season 2 was to be “more grand with the wedding and deeper with the characters”. She said that it is a more nuanced and layered look at the themes that they did the first time. “It’s just more poignant and fun now.”
“There is in betweenness of traditionalisation and modernisation. There is of course love, family, togetherness and romance, things that one holds dear. There is also much to change, the actualisation of how women are changing and exploring how tradition meets modernity,” she said, speaking about the new season.
Made in Heaven 2 also stars Kalki Koechlin, Shashank Arora, Shivani Raghuvanshi, Trinetra Haldar, Ishwak Singh, Mrunal Thakur, Radhika Apte, Shibani Dandekar, Dia Mirza, Sameer Soni and Sanjay Kapoor.
